Greater Glasgow Police Scotland Pipe Band played just after 4pm on Saturday 31 May 2014 just before the winners Field Marshall Montgomery PB.
The judges awarded 4th and 5th in piping, 5th in drumming and 7th in ensemble. Draw your own conclusions when you watch this recording made by

Gourock Pipe Band Competition; Sunday 11 May 2014
The Band had a successful afternoon having been sorely tested in a prolonged deluge during preparation and competition playing and attained 1st Prizes from all four judges.
Gourock is known for beating the Amazon Basin in the deluge stakes – the bookies closed the book on that one a while back, and this didn’t disappoint the naysayers.
Wonderful test however for the various deluges to come at Championship events later this year and it also tested the new guys on the line. Much was learned from this experience and we thank the good people of Gourock for laying on the flood for our benefit.
PBTV are also thanked for their footage of the Band competing

Cowal Highland Games 2012

The Saturday for the Cowal games started off bright and sunny and the band enjoyed beautiful scenery on trip over in the Western ferries to Dunoon.

Once again we were guests at the boxing club which is a practice Hall for the Dunoon pipe band and the band are always grateful for their hospitality. Before getting down to the serious business of playing, the whole band lined up for a group photograph and there were many small cameras and phones clicking away for a good five minutes – some of the results can be seen here.

Strathclyde police pipe band played in eighth spot at 16:10 hours and we are reasonably content with their strong showing in the medley competition which later resulted in third prize overall.

World PB Championship 13
The Band played on the Saturday to qualify for the finals on the Sunday of the World PB Championship at Glasgow Green 2013. This is the medley performance which helped them qualify and the recording is kindly provided by ‘Hervé’

On the Sunday afternoon of the second day of the World Pipe Band Championship in Aug 2013 the Band was successful in coming through to this final stage and performing their Medley which was met with much acclaim, 3rd equal, 4th in this part of the event. The remarks of the commentator are pertinent.

Cowal Highland Games; PB Championships; 2013
At the last RSPBA Championship event to be held at Dunoon the band performed but failed to figure in the prize list despite a reasonable performance. The standard by all accounts is extremely high and that is wonderful for followers of the art. Here we have some photos of the Band on the field of play.

Later we travelled to Paisley where we played for Terry Tully who was PM for the last time with the St Laurence O’Toole, Dublin. He held that position for 29 years and now hands on the post to his son Allen. Our Band played two sets and that was followed by a presentation and some tunes. A great night with good friends.
We now look forward to next year’s competition season

Troon Taxi Outing
pb_web_Troontaxi;community1The Band attended at Kelvingrove and then Troon to parade in procession with the Lady Provost of Glasgow and the Lord Lieutenant and many taxis bearing children for their annual outing to Troon. The weather was fine and the crowds were out to welcome all. Another refreshing day in the Community for the Band and the following photos gives one a flavour of the event.

Govan Fair June 2013
From decades ago when the Band started as in Govan, it has paraded at the annual Govan Fair, traditionally held on the first Friday evening in June.
Here is one of the drummers in the Band,”Prenty” displaying an emblem of the Fair, the Sheep’s Heid. Prenty declared,” It was a good parade, lots of floats. The biggest for many years. All and all a good night with large crowds enjoying the fine weather.”

While it was exceedingly cold for April it did remain dry and the combined band of Greater Glasgow PS and Dumfries PS, put up an excellent show with drill as smart as the new constables!

The Uist and Barra Comp over at the College of Piping on the same day was where against a heavy field William Geddes won commendable prizes with 5th in the MSR and 3rd in the Hornpipe and Jig.
