The Greater Glasgow Police Scotland Pipe Band, is one of the Scottish Police Bands constituting ‘The Pipes and Drums of Police Scotland’, which was formed after the creation of Police Scotland in April 2013.
The Greater Glasgow Band was formerly known as Strathclyde Police Pipe Band,(and also City of Glasgow Police Pipe Band and before that Govan Burgh Police Pipe Band) enjoys the reputation of being one of the world’s most famous bands and who enjoyed an excellent competitive success over its long history, including a record 10 Grade One World Championship wins over an 11 year span from 1980 to 1991. The Band continues to compete at the top end of Grade One and has enjoyed significant success since its inception as GGPSPB. The recent Concert at the Glasgow Concert Hall(see News Page) in front of a capacity audience, drew wide acclaim as one of the best Concerts ever. Our ambition for 2016 is to concentrate on the Competition aspect of band playing where we will challenge for the highest honours. We are recruiting people with excellent skills and wide experience, matching the highest level in the Pipe Band world.
The band consists of a mixture of serving and retired Police Officers, combined with players from the wider community.
The band Officers are, Inspector Niall West who is the Band Officer.
Drum Major Andrew McPherson, Pipe Major Iain MacPherson and Leading Drummer Eric Ward.
We are pleased to be invited to play at various engagements, and our attendance is, like other bands, governed by diary and circumstance. See our Contact Page for details.
The Greater Glasgow Police Scotland Pipe Band enjoys wide support which we wish to sustain and welcome your contact and encouragement in the future.
